In the spring of 1936, the Swiss-German artist Meret Oppenheim proposed a design of a fur bracelet to Schiaparelli. The designer had it made and included it in her Winter collection.
The meeting of these two women artists revolutionised not only the fashion accessory, but also art history. Upon meeting her at the Café de Flore, Picasso, seeing that Meret Oppenheim was wearing the fur bracelet, observed to her that anything could be created with the material. This remark inspired Meret Oppenheim's famous work Déjeuner en fourrure (Object), composed of a cup, saucer and teaspoon covered with fur.
She was the first woman artist to be included the collection of the MoMA in New York, thanks to her Déjeuner en fourrure masterpiece.
